Welcome to TBL in Europe

TBL is a growing pedagogy in Europe which offers teachers and students an opportunity to engage in active learning which stimulates life long collaborative learning and which provides vital transferable skills for the modern labour market.  It is particularly gaining the attention of University senior leaders working in this more financially constrained era as TBL offers excellent student experience alongside staffing efficiency when compared to other active learning pedagogies.

If you are an educator using TBL in Europe then we want to hear from you whether you are a TBLC member or not.

Where in Europe?

There are established centres of TBL and TBLC members in the following European countries

Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK

For those interested in TBL training we can put you in contact with trainer consultants based in Europe who may be able to deliver TBL training in your own language.  We like to foster TBL communities of practice bringing together TBL practitioners within a country, a specific academic discipline or interest or learners..

Not just for Universities

Through a number of national and EU funding projects ETBLC members have been working with school and college leaders to deliver TBL sessions to school age children.  We even have Health Service staff using TBL to teach patient groups about their treatment pathways.

Want to know more about TBL?

Take a look at our catalogue of ‘Least you need to know about TBL’ in the language of your choice. It is a quick two page outline of the TBL process and the reasoning and logic behind it along with some of the advantages it offers over other more traditional teaching methods

What is ETBLC?

The European Team Based Learning Community, which is part of the TBLC, has the remit to promote TBL in Europe. We have a Board which oversees what we do, a budget which comes from your TBLC membership fees and we organise an Annual Symposia so the European TBLers can tell each other about what they are up to.

We also have bursaries to help fund attending the TBLC annual meeting in N. America and financial help to spread the word of TBL to more educators within Europe.  The more European TBLC members there are, the more money ETBLC gets the more we can do to spread the TBL word.

Our Vision

The European Team-Based Learning Community (ETBLC) is dedicated to encouraging and disseminating Team-Based Learning (TBL) strategies to educators and educational institutions across Europe. With members in 11 European countries our aim is to grow TBL communities of practice which act as seed points around the continent to grow TBL participation.  TBL in Europe is practiced over a wide range of disciplines from Science, Social Science and the Arts as well as the established Health Sciences and in a range of educational settings from Schools to Universities.

We Will Achieve This By
