Presented by: Karla Kubitz – Towson University
Date & Time: Friday, March 5, 2021, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM ET

Given the potentially beneficial impact on intention and behavior in the classroom, TBL course policy statements should ideally support the development of optimal behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, and control beliefs for all of our diverse learners. The Designing Course Policy Statements workshop will be conducted using a TBL format. Attendees will be provided with a pre-workshop reading assignment related to the theory of planned behavior and the workshop will begin with an individual and a team Readiness Assurance Test. The workshop will continue with several Application Activities. Application Activities will challenge teams to: (a) classify exemplar TBL course policy statements according to whether they focus on behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, or control beliefs; and (b) to decide whether exemplar TBL course policy statements are likely to optimize behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, and control beliefs. Upon completion of the Workshop, attendees should be able to transfer what they learned and evaluate/ redesign their own course policy statements.

We hope you enjoy this and our other exciting workshops.

#TBLC21 Featured Workshop: Developing Leadership Competency For Communicating Across Cultures

With the 2021 TBLC Meeting just around the corner, we would like to bring attention to one of our featured workshops: Team-Based Learning to Develop Leadership Competency for Communicating Across Cultures and Working in Multicultural Teams. This session will be presented by Judith Ainsworth and Annelise Ly. We hope you enjoy this session!

Title: Team-Based Learning to Develop Leadership Competency for Communicating Across Cultures and Working in Multicultural Teams
Presented by: Judith Ainsworth – McGill University and Annelise Ly – Norwegian School of Economics
Date & Time: Wednesday, March 3, 2021, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Future global leaders need to develop global leadership competencies (GLC) to tackle the complexities of globalization, not just to learn about them. To meet this challenge, this workshop aims to develop GLC using a Team-Based Learning (TBL) cross-cultural negotiation activity to help future global leaders successfully collaborate with, motivate and lead people in international settings and from different cultures. This workshop aims to help participants practice (1) their ability to understand and describe their own views of the world, how they relate to others and to question the way they act; and (2) their ability to communicate effectively and work in multicultural teams, an essential competency for global leaders.

We hope you enjoy this and our other exciting workshops.

#TBLC21 Welcomes Plenary Speaker Dr. Elizabeth Hillman

The 20th Annual TBLC Conference is just around the corner, and we would like you to get to know our keynote sessions! We have two presentations this year and we hope you enjoy each. The first will be given by Dr. Elizabeth Hillman, President of Mills College in Oakland, California.

Dr. Elizabeth Hillman
Plenary: Transforming teaching and learning at Mills College, into a pandemic and beyond

Mills College adapted to the challenges of distance learning and the equity/public health crises by elevating its emphasis on inclusive excellence and integrated academic and student-life experiences. Yet some essential elements of Mills’ pedagogy, such as community engagement, were especially difficult to translate into an online environment. As Mills builds a sustainable economic model for a small college in Oakland, a thriving and complex urban landscape, some elements of 2020 will endure and others will be left behind, and our commitment to diverse learners must be sustained.

Dr. Elizabeth L. Hillman is the 14th President of Mills College. She brings to Mills extensive experience in higher education administration and instruction and a distinguished background working on key gender and women’s issues. Hillman’s expertise in sexual violence and gender issues in military organizations and culture has brought her national and international recognition. She has been an expert witness testifying before Congress on numerous occasions. She is a sought-after educator and speaker on the topics of sexual assault and harassment, and women’s leadership and rights. In 2013–2014, she served on the Response Systems to the Adult Sexual Assault Crimes Panel (RSP),and also chaired the RSP’s Comparative Systems Subcommittee.

We hope you enjoy what we are sure will be a very engaging plenary discussion.

Thank you,
Sarah Lerchenfeldt & Robin Risling-de Jong
